I’ve always thought that the Djs I’ve come across have been some of the most amazing networking machines – these dudes are monsters (do they sleep?)! After the advent of file sharing and the social networking revolution, it only seems fit that these Djs should have their proper home on the internerd – and it’s found on Mixterminal.com. Hosting close to 400 registered members, Mixterminal also offers an extensive video collection from Djs around the world including Djs Z-Trip, Dj Sabotage, Dj Chonz AND live broadcasts from legends such as Pete Rock and Dj Evil Dee. Aside from that, members can upload mixtapes, albums, whatever they have for your listening pleasure. Membership is open to djs, non-djs, and those who support dj culture as a while. Once you have signed up, you will receive xclusive email blasts which let you know when special sets and guests are dropping by (seriously, why can’t Pete Rock be djing RGHT NOW?).
Also on my radar and affiliated with Mixterminal is De La Soul’s Dugout, which is mainly run by legendary Dj Maseo and features guest appearances by.. well.. whoever happens to stop in. Using UStream, one of the most interactive video sharing services, music is rocking 24-7 and Maseo is known to drop in for a quick chat with the channel’s chat room residents.
My first introduction to Ustream was from GI Joe on some random shit. At first, I thought, “Damn, this shit is pretty weird, I mean, I’m looking into this guy’s kitchen and he’s drinking out of a tea cup…Awesome.” GI Joe continued to rock shit out. I haven’t caught his show in a quick minute, but he’s usually broadcasting in the evening and he always has some nice exclusive east coast flavor.
Easily my favorite hour of the day, Dj Chonz (Radio Bums) hosts his daily video mix on Ustream, which features… well… everything. However, ‘everything ‘ comprises of all of the dope shit you may have forgotten about, all of the new shit you needed to hear, and everything in between – mixed like a champ. You can catch Dj Chonz on the daily at 11AM MST on his UStream page. Keep an ear and eye out for Dr. Love, he has that prescription you need.
Last but certainly not least, be sure to check out the legendary Beat Junkies Crew via UStream as well. I mean, it’s the Beat Junkies – need I say any more? Babu has been one of my favorite djs steady.
Hopefully ya’ll learned something… UStream has potentially revolutionized the mixtape show via live video feeds and the way music is delivered. I’d rather be able to rock out with my favorite djs on the random than have sliced bread, and I think the potential for live video dj and performance feeds have the capacity to revolutionize the way we hear new music.
