Jay-Z claims Billboard crown over Elvis, number chasing The Beatles
Releasing his 11th solo full-length album On September 8th, 2009, Jay-Z has surpassed Elvis Presley as the artist who has had the most number 1 album in history (Jay’s 2007′s American Gangster tied Elvis‘s record). Along with that, The Blueprint 3, selling an estimated 476,000 copies in its first week, is also bringing a bit of competition to the The Beatles, with Jay taking the #2 spot for the most number one albums among all acts – solo, group, or otherwise. The Beatles still have an upper-hand on the music market by retaining a steady 1M albums sold per year since each their debut. Another few albums from Jay-Z and this could mean a complete takeover (excuse my cheesy Blueprint 1 references) of the top tier of Billboard‘s reporting system.
All aboard the Hov train: next stop, world domination.
