Fergie: Kanye West, gays, and hip hop
Finally, Fergie (of Black Eyed Peas fame) has said something that kind of, sort of makes sense. In regards to embracing the gay community, she states:
Kanye West really did a great thing for hip-hop and made it very mixed and open.

Kanye has been pretty vocal about ending homophobia in the hip hop community after discovering that his cousin was gay. Not to give too much credit to Fergie, but I always think it’s somewhat interesting when one artist credits another artist for changing the whole game. Conversely, I would venture to say that most of Kanye‘s die hard fans aren’t homophobic anyway. In 2003, the UK Attorney General addresses the government with a letter which would prosecute those who promoted violence against gays in their lyrics, specifically aimed to rap and hip hop artists. As you can guess, this letter didn’t go too far. What would be the case if something like this were to happen? Would we have the same regulations for lyrics which promoted violence again women (especially Eminem‘s wife / baby mom / mother / Mariah Carey)?
50 Cent, Eminem, Busta Rhymes, DMX, are you listening?
