Best of 2009 :: PopularLemonade edition
I feel like ‘best of’ lists are a bit overrated – everyone ends up putting on their bad ass hats and bitching about the placement of the exact same 10 albums within the list. Instead of boring you all with a bunch of diatribe and bullshit, I’d rather show you exactly what has been keeping my ears busy over the past year. Are all of these plays artists who have dropped albums in 2009? Of course not. But at the end of the day, what the fuck does a release date truly mean, anyway? To me, the proof is in the pudding, which is why I wanted to show you all what really grabbed me rather than bullshitting a bunch of long recaps about albums no one really listened to more than once, even though it may have been groundbreaking or revolutionary. The proof is in the pudding, right?
As far as the newcomers are concerned…
I think it’s obvious – Drake has truly been one of the most recognized upcoming stars of 2009 due to So Far Gone and also the Young Money album which dropped earlier this month. For reference, I think that joint has been out since the beginning of the month, but somehow made it into my top 10 in a short amount of time… Yes, I am borderline obsessed. Yes, I realize that I probably won’t like the album in another month.
U-N-I has consistently filled my playlist and I’m super excited to see what 2010 holds for the duo. Big things. Big things they refused to talk to me about until the ink has dried.
Wishing you all a safe & happy decade to come,
Miss R.
