When I first started PopularLemonade, I was surprised at the influx of really, really terrible music and EPKs that found their way into my inbox.  Seriously, I was shocked at the level of horrible music that folks are pushing and also the lack of proper editorial support and horrendous marketing and promotion skills in general.  This is hip hop and it’s not supposed to be pretty or grammatically correct, apparently.

Every so often, I sift through this mountain of bullshit in my inbox, half hoping that there will be a diamond in the rough, half entertained by the quality of music that folks are truly pushing online, and definitely not expecting anything.

Enter Versis.  He is that diamond.  I actually didn’t know what to expect after reading his short intro statement (see below), but this kid literally had my jaw drop, amazed at how much better his shit sounded than anyone else in comparison… and at such a young age.

My name’s Versis. I’m an emcee representing Los Angeles by way of Pasadena. I graduated from high school class of ’09.During my Senior year, I put together an 8 track EP entitled ‘Synergy’ Attached is my latest release since the EP. I’m currently working on my debut album, “illcandescent” to be released sometime this year. “All In”, as the title suggests carries a poker theme throughout. This life’s a gamble, you can either play your hand, or you can fold…right where you stand.
I refuse to fold, which is why I’m taking another shot at getting the masses to hear this.
