Best mixtape releases :: last week (Dom Kennedy, Kida)
The mixtape game so far within the first quarter of 2010 has been a few shades of lackluster. Nothing’s standing out, nothing’s really shining above anything else. Were you sleeping last week? All of a sudden, two super dope mixtapes dropped last week. Check them out below.
Dom Kennedy :: From the Westside with Love (download here)
Dom Kennedy is pretty much one of my favorite artists out right now – his sense of economy within his music is balanced well with his beat selection, it’s not too much, not too little – in the words of the three bears or some shit, it’s just right. Be sure to check out Locals Only and Play On.
Kida :: Who is Kida? (download here)
Yes… Yes. Another west coast artist with so much flava – a much more different vibe than Dom Kennedy. Dom is great for cruising, Kida is great for wanting to start a motherfucking riot. Who is Kida? features production by Aftermath artist Focus, as well as Jake One and guest spots by Marsha Ambrosius and a few others. Really, he had me with the 10 Crack Commandments revamp.
