LollipaRUza2010 confirmed artist :: Bianca Mikahn
Where in one place can you find 26 of the flyest motherfuckers? For one night only, the most diverse collaborative showcase to ever hold court in the Mile High City will culminate at the Walnut Room on May 27, 2010. LollipaRUza… come get some, bitches.
We’re proud to announce our fourth confirmed artist out of 26… Bianca Mikahn.
Bianca Mikahn is the personification of musical pleasure. A writer, vocalist and self proclaimed “box state baby,” Mikahn brings heart and clarity to the collective creation. Influenced by such elements as Hip Hop, funk bits of R&B and classical, Mikahn describes her eclectic taste as a smorgasbord with an appreciation for the art of storytelling.
While impossible to completely streamline a favorite song, Mikahn throws to Esthero’s “That Girl” as a fitting description of her desired styles.
“I’d vibe out to Esthero after the introduction to the meld with her and Goodie Mob, the ‘Slam’ soundtrack if not a bit before. I was attracted to something about the movement, hopeful melancholy, and sweet recognition of isolation. Alone but not lonely.”
Recent work finds Bianca’s strongest presence on tracks that showcase equal parts, skill and dedication. Calling on raw emotion for inspiration she is given a new diligence for breath phrasing and range. Past songs like “Radio” have prepared the MC to stretch her melodic capabilities.
The quest for artistic diversity created a welcome challenge with self which determined the lyrical food heaped on the plate set before her. Accepting without hesitation, this multiplicity opened a new wave of ingenuity.
“It was sort of an arrival point. I figured how to say these wild rhythms and concepts while still sounding like me. It wasn’t pseudo East or West Coast knock off, it was me.”
A consummate poet at foundation, Mikahn uses words like giggles, wind, saxophones, and shadows to describe her sound.
Bianca’s aim is to build ambivalence with an awareness to tender precision. Through lyrics, metaphors, and a touch of Tupac, the voice is a journey across oceans, stealthily carving the road into hearts, minds and straight to the voice of your belly.
