It seems like it’s been many moons (or, at least since Dj Amen released NeVEr TRuSt ROBoTs pT. 2 this summer) since I’ve had a solid mixtape to rock in the car.  Luckily, J.Rocc has delivered with a well-choreographed “best of” tribute to Quantic.  In fact, I can now cross “cumbia in the car” off of my bucket list.

A few more words about the project from Tru Thoughts:

It has been a decade since Will Holland aka Quantic released his first album on Tru Thoughts. Twelve albums later and Quantic has a vast discography; funky, soulful vibes with the Quantic Soul Orchestra, Flowering Inferno’s reggae infused dub, cumbia with The Combo Barbaro, and more. The Best Of Quantic album highlights  the stunning range of his work, bringing together some of the biggest tracks from across his many projects.
To celebrate the release and a decade of music from Quantic, the world famous J.Rocc (one of the finest DJs on the planet), created the Best Of Quantic Mix that perfectly incorporates electronic, jazz, dub, hip-hop, cumbia and the many more styles to come from Quantic over the span of ten years.

In 2009, PopularLemonade declared Dj Amen‘s mixtape, Never Trust Robots, the best dj-based mixtape of the year.  Just two years later, Dj Amen is back at it with his follow-up project, aptly named NeVEr TRuSt ROBoTs pT. 2.

It’s a little bit embarrassing to admit, but I listened to the Amen‘s first installment to the point that the CD actually quit reading — without scratches.  The only thing I’m embarrassed about it the fact that I still rock a CD every now and then.

Damon Albarn decided to do the same, except instead of kitchen utensils, he used an iPad (rich people, right?). And instead of giving it to a girl that promised to go to Junior Prom with him but instead went with the captain of the Lacrosse team, he gave it to us,  for free.

It’s not the best Gorillaz album ever (dude, it was made on an iPad), but it’s a nice lil’ bit of chill-out music for your week, and you probably need to relax and chill in this little bit of recovery time between Christmas and the upcoming insane-o-fest that is New Years Eve.
